Kate Clough – Head of Legal (since 2014)
Kate’s journey with Goldentree began after working in Betfred’s legal department. “I was approached to work exclusively for Goldentree after doing some work for them,” she recalls. Kate investigates land and assets proposed for security, prepares lending documentation and provides ongoing legal support throughout the loan lifecycle, including plot sales and loan redemptions.
Her expertise spans secured development finance law, creative problem-solving and fast, thorough work – qualities essential in a fast-paced environment. She thrives on teamwork, spotting potential problems and offering solutions efficiently. “Working as a team to exceed expectations is what I enjoy most,” Kate says.
Outside work, Kate balances precision with passion. She’s proud of scoring 100% in her WSET Level 2 wine exam, enjoys watching her son play football, cheering for Liverpool FC, tennis, karate and holidays in the sun or on ski slopes. If Goldentree had an awards ceremony, she’d win “Most likely to get locked in having lost my work fob.” Her motto? “Don’t let perfection be the enemy of the good.”
Michael Wan – Solicitor (since 2019)
Michael joined Goldentree FS to gain exposure to high-value, multi-million-pound deals. He supports the business by ensuring transactions move forward efficiently and securely, balancing speed with meticulous due diligence. His key areas of expertise include in-house legal support, contract review, risk management and keeping complex matters moving.
“I enjoy finding the sweet spot where practicality meets protection,” Michael explains. “There’s something very satisfying about resolving a sticking point that helps a deal move forward.” One proud moment was delivering a fast turnaround on a major transaction, allowing the team to progress without delay.
Outside the office, Michael enjoys family time, discovering great food spots, and cheering on his son at football matches. If Goldentree held an awards ceremony, he’d win the “Spark Award – for sparking new ideas.” His motto? “Details matter where the deal is made.”
